ADAM Project (Mobile App, Diagnosis, Application of Microorganisms, and Early Selection Methods for Plant Breeding): Integrated Biotechnology and Cloud Architecture Actions to Safeguard Bananas from the Current Pandemic by Fusarium Race 4 Tropical

General Objective: The ADAM project seeks to implement multidisciplinary actions with short and medium-term scope to prevent unions, adapt laboratories and prepare producers against a possible introduction of the quarantine pest FocR4T in the Ecuadorian territory.

Specific objectives:

  • ADAM plans to develop a method for early selection of banana plants with possible resistance to FocR4T through differential detection of the RGA2 gene.
  • ADAM seeks to increase the diagnostic capabilities of FocR4T through the validation and calibration of current molecular methods in two additional laboratories to the national accredited network.
  • ADAM proposes to evaluate the application of microorganisms as biocontrol tools for the management of FocR4T through the strict selection of bacterial and fungal groups with high antagonistic power proven in planta with race 1.
  • ADAM plans to execute a mass adoption campaign, incorporating communication plans and strategic alliances, so that producers and technicians related to the musaceae chain know, download and use the Fusarium Sensor Ec mobile application.
