Analysis and application of forms of human-computer interaction (HCI) in a technological tool for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) based on pictograms, which helps older adults communicate with their environment.

General Objective: Analyze different forms of human-computer interaction (HCI) in a technological tool for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) based on pictograms, which helps older adults communicate with their environment.

Specific objectives:

  • Establish the state of the art, which will contemplate the different HCI mechanisms in AAC applications based on pictograms.
  • Create an AAC tool based on pictograms, aimed at older adults.
  • Apply the different HCI modes that can be included in the created tool.
  • Propose a model, based on pre-trained models, of Natural Language Processing (NLP) for the interpretation of pictograms to text in the AAC system.
  • Determine the physiological variables of the users to be analyzed when using the application with different forms of interaction.
  • Carry out the evaluation of the proposed solutions with domain experts, computer science engineers and older adults.
