CEDIA and UNICEF launch the “Time Machine 2030” initiative

This work promotes reflection on the SDGs among Ecuadorian youth.

The Time Machine 2030 project has been launched, an initiative that aims to engage young people in reflecting on, learning about, and expressing their views on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The project's main objective is to create spaces where young people can discuss and address current issues that will have a significant impact on the future.

The project consists of a series of training workshops that will culminate in the publication of a book composed of texts written by the young participants themselves. These texts will be letters addressed to their future selves in the year 2030, in which they will express their contributions and concerns regarding the SDGs, as well as their expectations for the world at that time.

To achieve this, several phases have been structured, and the Time Machine 2030 Workshop Cycle is currently underway. These workshops offer young people training on SDG awareness and the principles and tools of creative writing, and are being taught by leading professionals in their respective fields

  • Mario Naranjo: Communications and Program Promotion Officer, Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Ecuador. Topic: Introduction to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Lizette Ponce: Data Management, Monitoring and Reporting Officer at the Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Ecuador. Topic: The SDGs in Ecuador.
  • Francisco Mejía: United Nations Strategic Partnerships and Financing Officer. Topic: Human Rights and SDGs in Practice.
  • Paula Vásquez Cobo: National Communications Officer at IOM Ecuador. Topic: SDGs, action and commitment.
  • Laura Malache: Coordinator of the CEDIAPublishing House. Topic: Fundamentals and tools of creative writing.

More than 25 young people from across Ecuador, aged between 14 and 24, are participating in these virtual workshops. The initiative, a collaboration between CEDIA and UNICEF, offers young people a valuable opportunity to learn and express their ideas and visions for a sustainable future.

The Time Machine 2030 project not only aims to educate and empower young people, but also offers them a platform to express their visions and actively contribute to building a more equitable and sustainable future.
