CEDIA promotes spaces to encourage open access to information

The First National Meeting between researchers and librarians: “Democratization and strengthening of access to scientific information in Ecuador” brought together several international, national and governmental organizations

On November 11 and 12, CEDIA and its Academic area held the First National Meeting between researchers and librarians: “Democratization and strengthening of access to scientific information in Ecuador.”.

In recent years, Ecuadorian educational institutions have made significant efforts to provide access to high-level academic and scientific information for students, faculty, and researchers. However, limited institutional budgets hinder the expansion of these resources. Therefore, CEDIA and its member institutions, in collaboration with organizations such as SENESCYT, have worked on projects such as LA REFERENCIA at the international level, the Ecuadorian Network of Open Access Repositories (RRAAE), and the Semantic Repository of Ecuadorian Researchers (REDI), which contribute to information access. Additionally, these institutions have worked on the development, implementation, and standardization of institutional repositories, digital journals, and other resources at the national level. A key aspect for improving the quality of scientific output in Ecuador is access to digital libraries in various fields of knowledge that are of interest to members of the Ecuadorian academic community.

This meeting aims to promote scientific production and generate activities related to the effective use of digital repositories, digital journals as a contribution to research, and the link between researchers and libraries in institutions.

The main presentations that were presented during this academic event were given by several organizations from Latin America and Europe, such as La Referencia, OPENAIRE, National University of Chile, National University of Costa Rica, which have experience and participation regarding the quality of scientific information that is handled at a global level.
