Degradation of organic polymers through the use of recombinant enzymes

General Objective: Design recombinant enzymes based on the three-dimensional structure of the enzyme PET hydrolase from Idionella sakaiensis (IsPETase) for the effective degradation of synthetic organic polymers.

Specific objectives

  • Improve the catalytic capacity of the enzyme IsPETase.
  • Characterize the degradation profile of PET plastic by optimized IsPETase action.
  • To evaluate the physical and mechanical properties of synthetic organic polymers treated with IsPETase.
