The student will participate in the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics for Juniors .
Adrián Araujo is 13 years old and has a firm dream: to study Astrophysics. He is a few years away from entering university, but from a very young age he has begun to forge his professional career thanks to his passion for the universe, Mathematics and Physics.
In 2022 Adrián applied and won one of the places to be part of the Estimulo al TALento MATemático – ESTALMAT project. This is a project developed with the support of the Spanish Academy of Sciences since 1998. CEDIA has been part of this initiative since 2019 with offices in Azuay, Chimborazo and Guayas. And it was in one of the Astrophysics and Robotics classes at ESTALMAT that Adrián reinforced his passion for Astrophysics.
According to this boy from the province of Cañar, the classes prompted him to participate in the first Ecuadorian Astronomy Olympiad for Juniors 2023. An event sponsored by the Technical University of Cotopaxi, the Yachay Tech University and the Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics Club- YT.
At the Olympics, Adrián took three tests together with several students from the country. After an exhaustive qualification, Adrián obtained first place in this competition and will be part of the student committee that will represent the country at the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics for Juniors – IOAA Jr, which will take place in Greece from the 24th to the 30th of September of this year.
Adriana Ortega, Adrián's mother, comments that the classes received at ESTALMAT have helped Adrián deepen his knowledge and can apply it in different skills. Also, she says that the classes help her prepare for the IOAA.
With these achievements, CEDIA reaffirms its work to continue supporting the country's future professionals with projects such as ESTALMAT , which stimulate and develop the skills of the participants.
