Evaluation of in vitro cultures (stem cells) of 3 Ecuadorian plant species of the genus Kalanchoe as a sustainable source of compounds with anticancer activity

General Objective: To evaluate the in vitro stem cell culture of three plant species of the Kalanchoe genus in the production of secondary metabolites with anticancer activity.

Specific objectives:

  • Optimize an in vitro stem cell culture methodology for the Ecuadorian species Kalanchoe daigremontiana, Kalanchoe expensenis – bonnieri and Kalanchoe pinnata.
  • Develop analytical capabilities for the monitoring and characterization of secondary metabolites produced by in vitro culture of stem cells of the Ecuadorian species Kalanchoe daigremontiana, Kalanchoe expensenis – bonnieri and Kalanchoe pinnata.
  • Knowing the influence of the different variables maintained in in vitro cultures of stem cells impact the production of secondary metabolites with anticancer activity.
