The Ecuadorian Corporation for the Development of Research and AcademiaCEDIA, San Francisco de Quito University, Delegation of the European Union in Ecuador, RedCLARA (Latin American Cooperation of Advanced Networks) and with the support of the EU Space Support Office and EUreCA, within the framework of the BELLA II project, are leading the deployment of Academia Copernicus Ecuador and organizing the first meeting of the National Committee of the Academy in the country, which will take place on Friday, September 26, 2024 in Plaza Da Vinci of the San Francisco de Quito University.
This meeting aims to formalize the creation of the Copernicus Academy in Ecuador, to publicize the deployment strategy and to confirm the national committee with relevant actors in the country who will be responsible for designing the plan and actions to follow.
The Copernicus Academy in Ecuador aims to enhance the country's capacity building and knowledge management in thematic areas of Earth observation, enabling the adoption of Copernicus data in new sectors and thus reducing the gap between skills and data use in the country.
Copernicus is the European Union's Earth Observation Programme, which studies our planet and its environment for the benefit of all its citizens. It offers information services based on Earth observation data from satellites and on-site data.
BELLA II – led by RedCLARA and co-financed by the European Union – is one of the four pillars of the EU-LAC Digital Alliance; the other pillars are Copernicus, the investment accelerator (Tecnalia) and the Political Dialogues (ECLAC and GIZ).
