It is a pleasure for us to contact such a valuable professional, through this document we wish to extend the warmest congratulations for his hard work for the academic community and society in general.

It is a pleasure for us to know that CEDIA has contributed to the development of your research project, which is why we would like you to grant us a short interview, in which we will present your research to our readers of the CAMPUS magazine, to Next we indicate the bank of questions to be solved.

Please help us with your full name and the position you hold at the institution you represent.
My name is Juan Fernando Cisneros Ramos, I am a teacher-researcher at the University of Cuenca.

Tell us briefly about your investigative work and in what area do you work?
My line of research is related to the influence of fluid hydrodynamics on the treatment efficiency of wastewater systems, specifically upflow anaerobic treatment systems. For this, I use computational fluid dynamics (CFD), an area of fluid mechanics that numerically solves the behavior of liquids and particles in time and space.

How do you think scientific research and development has evolved in Ecuador?
Despite the fact that research in Ecuador has developed in recent years mainly due to requirements for the staging of researchers within universities, there is a very large disconnect between the results of research and processes of technology creation or development of services. This fact has meant that the development of research in Ecuador is not self-sustaining, depending almost exclusively on state funding sources that are not always available. This disconnect must be broken if research is to drive the economic engine of the country.

Could you briefly mention the facilities that CEDIA provided you to develop your management and, from your point of view, what was the process of requesting, using and supporting them?
The use of CFD tools are computationally very expensive, so developing my line of research would be practically impossible without access to high-performance computing equipment such as the one offered by CEDIA . The application process to this service was quite simple, however, much can be improved in the support provided. For example, it is necessary that all available nodes work optimally, without unscheduled interruptions. It is necessary to consider that researchers require personnel to train them when required to fine-tune their software needs and immediately start using the equipment. Technical support should implement a quality and monitoring system so that all support requests are properly and fully answered.

What are the next objectives for your research project, what are your future plans?
My research projects will focus in the future on relating the hydrodynamics of fluids within anaerobic reactors with their biokinetics, with the purpose of generating growth models of flocculent and granular biomass considering temporal and spatial restrictions.

How do you consider that CEDIA has contributed to scientific, technological and innovative development in Ecuador? And in a few words, what does CEDIA for you and the academic community?
Undoubtedly, the existence of CEDIA , with its high-speed internet services, high-performance computing, and funding for research has contributed to the development of the research culture in Ecuador and not to be left behind in technological progress. For me CEDIA is the institution that is at the forefront of data processing technology in the country.

Finally, it could send a motivational message to the Ecuadorian scientific community.

The world's greatest powers became what they are because of science. As Ecuadorian scientists, we therefore have the responsibility of promoting the development of the country. Publishing scientific articles should not be the purpose of our research, but to produce services that improve people's quality of life.

Thank you always for your kind and great contribution to our academic and reading community.
