The Corporation works on the articulation, collaboration and transfer of knowledge on IP issues.
CEDIA promotes responsible management of Intellectual Property in Higher Education Institutions of Ecuador, through the articulation, collaboration and transfer of research results to the productive sector. Generating, in this way, constant growth in Ecuador's innovation ecosystem.
To achieve this, the Corporation works on the collection and systematization of Intellectual Property data related to patent procedures, industrial designs and utility models, between 1990 and the first quarter of 2024, allowing us to know the number and status of procedures from different universities in Ecuadorian jurisdiction.
As data of interest, there are 192 industrial designs, 20 invention patents and seven utility models, granted to different universities and polytechnic schools in Ecuador.
There are 92 applications in process that have completed the publication phase. This includes 58 applications for invention patents, 24 applications for utility models and ten applications for industrial design, reflecting constant activity by universities and polytechnic schools.
On the other hand, it is very important to know that there are 30 applications that the National Intellectual Property Office rejected: 24 industrial design applications, five invention patent applications and one utility model application.
Not all research results can be the subject of a patent, utility model or industrial design, which is why CEDIA fulfills the role of providing specialized advice so that our member HEIs can properly manage their resources.
The Corporation promotes collaboration and technological surveillance to facilitate the delivery of reliable information to researchers and companies interested in knowing the state of the art and different solutions proposed at a global level on a specific topic.
