Graphene quantum dots as a new platform for the treatment of solid tumors with the highest incidence in Ecuador

General Objective: Develop a platform based on GQDs for the efficient transport of genes and drugs applied in in vitro models of tumors with the highest incidence in Ecuador.

Specific objectives:

  • Synthesize and characterize GQDs starting from graphite.
  • Model the interaction between GQDs with both DNA bases and a drug of interest using ab-initio methods.
  • To evaluate the binding of genes and the drug of interest used in antitumor treatments with GQDs.
  • To evaluate in vitro the antitumor activity of GQD complexes with both the genes and the drug of interest in human tumor lines.
  • To evaluate in vitro the cytotoxicity of GQD complexes with both the genes and the drug of interest in reference non-tumor cell lines.
