Juan Carlos Ocampo, a young researcher and clinical psychology student at the Catholic University of Santiago de Guayaquil, has actively participated in our competitions, winning first place in the CAD competition "With CEDIA , Learning is Different" and second place in the Learning Objects (LO) competition. Let's learn a little more about Juan Carlos, a promising young researcher from Ecuador, in the following interview.
I've known CEDIA for about a year and a half or two, I follow them on their social media, I was very interested in the information they posted such as the contests, the courses they offer and a lot of information of interest to my career.
At first I hesitated a bit to participate in the competitions, until I decided to present my proposal in “InnovaCEDIA – OA 2017”, with the creation of a learning object on statistics and the second competition was “With CEDIA you learn differently” where we made the proposal of a fun game with the information from the Network.
The excitement is immense! At Innova CEDIA 2017 - Learning Objects, I came in second place and won a trip to the Lacnoc congress in La Plata, Argentina.
Furthermore, in the "Learning Differently with CEDIA " competition, a classmate and I won first place; the prize was a trip to the Galápagos Islands.
I've always believed that research in Ecuador is still in its early stages; it's something that's developing little by little. But, on the other hand, organizations like CEDIA, along with professors and researchers, are responsible for driving research forward. During this time, I've been able to get to know their network of people who support development and research, and others who still don't understand what can be achieved by conducting research.
Absolutely! I think there's been a great deal of interest in research in recent years, with more and more research projects being produced. It's encouraging to know that research is increasingly being promoted and carried out in Ecuador, especially through CEDIA.
Research is amazing. I've always believed that science can, in one way or another, improve human life, enhance its quality, and bring about concrete and transformative change. Research is a noble vocation; you have to pursue it out of conviction. If you truly feel called to be a researcher, I believe this is the perfect time. It won't be easy, but at the same time, you'll find many people who will support you and lend a hand. I believe this is the ideal moment for Ecuador to take off and for research to flourish.
