In Ecuador we are a certified CATI
The global Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISC) program enables innovators in developing countries, least developed countries, and countries in transition to access and utilize technological information from over 130 million published patent documents and dozens of scientific and technical publications, helping them realize their innovative potential. TSCs are typically located in patent offices, universities, research centers, or science and technology parks, providing support to innovators where they need it most.
The global growth of STI networks and their increasing maturity and sustainability have been accompanied by a surge in demand for STI services. According to the annual year-end survey conducted by STIs worldwide, an estimated 1.7 million inquiries were received in 2021, representing a 24% increase compared to 2020. In Ecuador, the TISC network conducted 52 state-of-the-art searches in 2021, primarily in the areas of biotechnology, engineering, agrochemistry, and pharmaceuticals/chemistry.
In this context, part of the mission of Science, Technology, and Innovation Centers (STIs) is to broaden the depth and scope of their services, as well as the number of sustainable national STI networks and the demand for and growth of services. At the same time, STIs have expanded their range of services to help local users better leverage their innovative potential at all stages of innovation. Services supporting technology transfer, commercialization, and intellectual property management, in particular, are creating real value, as demonstrated by the increasing number of STI initiatives to help local researchers, inventors, and entrepreneurs bring inventions to market.
The following is mentioned in the annual report presented by the Technology and Innovation Support Centers (CATI) 2021:
“In Ecuador, the Ecuadorian National Research and Education Network (CEDIA), a key member of the national TISC network, publishes a periodic technology watch journal (CONNECT) that tracks advances in various areas of science and technology to inform research, business and policy decisions, and to support technology transfer in these areas.”
We can proudly mention that CEDIA is considered a key entity to enhance technological and innovative support, as well as a remarkable support for the transfer of technology, knowledge, and intellectual property processes in Ecuador.
