Open science comes together to define its future in Latin America

The discussions were geared towards addressing the social and academic needs of the region.

Open science meets

During November 26, 27 and 28, representatives of academic institutions, open science specialists and strategic allies from the region met at the LA Referencia Annual Meeting, one of the most important spaces to discuss the present and future of open access in Latin America.

In this edition, the meeting was developed from the function of a node, opening a space for collective dialogue aimed at reflecting on, evaluating and projecting the course of open science in the region, in a context marked by the challenges of sustainability, interoperability and equity in scientific production.

The work agenda focused on three key areas. First, an analysis of the state and evolution of the technological infrastructure that supports the open access ecosystem, which is fundamental to ensuring the visibility and preservation of scientific knowledge. Second, the identification of current challenges and opportunities to strengthen public policies, regional services, and collaborative frameworks between institutions.

Finally, the discussions focused on projecting the future growth of open science in Latin America, with the aim of consolidating a more inclusive, interoperable and sustainable scientific production, capable of responding to the social and academic needs of the region.

The LA Referencia Annual Meeting is thus consolidated as a strategic space to build bridges between countries, institutions and scientific communities, and to move towards a more transparent, collaborative and accessible knowledge system for everyone.
