Rio de Janeiro becomes the epicenter of technological and scientific collaboration in Latin America with the start of TICAL2024.
From December 5th to 8th, TICAL 2024 will take place under the theme "Connecting Knowledge: AI and Data as Catalysts for Academic and Social Transformation." This event positions itself as a fundamental space to address the challenges and advances facing the region in key areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), e-Health, open science, sustainability, and cybersecurity.
Our Executive Director, Juan Pablo Carvallo, participated in the Sustainability and Growth Panel, along with other leaders of National Research and Education Networks from the region. Strategies for sustainable growth in a constantly changing world were discussed, as well as the development of the Networks within a context of global transformations.
In the eHealth session, moderated by Tania Altamirano and Paulo Lopes, the role of academia in strengthening AI in health was discussed. Luis Vargas, Head of the Planning Area at CEDIA, presented the progress of the E-health by CEDIAProject, highlighting the impact of NRIs on the development of health competencies.
Our Director of Products and Services, Carlos Guzmán, participated in the panel: Impact of AI on Research: Opportunities, Challenges, and the Role of NRENs. He shared his expertise in research infrastructure, presenting the Research Lab platform. This session also addressed the development of Open Science ecosystems and infrastructure in Latin America, a key topic for promoting collaboration and open access in the region.
Finally, Flavio Rodríguez and Badi Quinteros, from the Technical Area, participated in the NRENs Technology Directors Forum, CLARATEC, and the Cybersecurity Bootcamp, respectively.
