The creation of spin-offs in the university sector is being considered
The winning project of the CEPRA XV-2021 call “Towards a systemic model for the creation of science and technology-based ventures in higher education institutions in Ecuador”, carried out between the University of Cuenca, Yachay Experimental Technology Research University and the State Polytechnic University of Carchi, proposes an emerging systemic model whose stages are visualized through a roadmap for the creation of spin-offs in a university environment.
To construct this model, several components were analyzed to determine key factors for the creation of this type of venture. The first component was related to the maturity level of existing research projects within the studied higher education institutions (HEIs). The second component was the level of entrepreneurial intent among researchers, and finally, the maturity level of the HEIs' innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems. Based on the results obtained, a systemic model was structured, comprising four stages and elements necessary to foster the evolution of a scientific research project to the generation and consolidation of a profitable business model that promotes the creation of technology-based ventures.
The proposed roadmap was presented in a webinar on March 24th, achieving significant visibility with approximately 90 attendees. This roadmap can be downloaded for free from the following link .
