SOLE-R: from social learning in insects to social learning in robot swarms

General Objective: Formulate social learning models inspired by the behavior of social insects and use them to develop efficient and verifiable control software for robot swarms through controlled and documented tests.

Specific objectives:

  • Produce a swarm of robots composed of at least 20 functional units, suitable for experimentation with social learning models, and carry out its configuration and commissioning effectively.
  • Develop a parametric model of social learning, based on the behavior of social insects, with evaluated and optimized parameters.
  • Implement and evaluate social learning models in an online design process of control software for robot swarms, using performance and effectiveness metrics of emerging collective behavior.
  • Produce four pieces of educational and informative content on intelligence and collective behaviors, seen from the perspective of studies with social insects and swarms of robots.
