Study of parasites and microbiome of wildlife in two of the most biodiverse areas of the planet: The Tropical Andes and Chocó-Darién in Ecuador

General Objective: Evaluate the diversity of parasites and microbiome associated with roadkill wildlife in the Tropical Andes (Phase 1 sampling, Napo Province, October 2020-March 2021) and expand the existing biobank with collection of roadkill wildlife in the Chocó-Darién .

Specific objectives

  • Expansion of the biobank of wild fauna run over in Ecuador.
  • Molecular identification of run over fauna in the Napo Province.
  • Identification of bloodborne pathogens (Rickettsia spp., Leishmania spp., and Trypanosoma spp.) from road kill fauna in the Napo Province.
  • Identification of the composition of the microbiome present in wild animals run over in the Province of Napo, according to their species and the ecological zones where they were run over.
  • Biogeography of parasites identified in the Napo Province.
