The Ideas Summit: a bridge between academia and business in Ecuador

The projects born from this space are designed to offer effective solutions to the current challenges of various industries.

The second edition of the Ideas Summit, a space organized by CEDIA , with the aim of strengthening ties between the academic world and the business sector, was held in Ambato on Thursday, August 29.

On this occasion, the Technical University of Ambato – UTA and the Corporation of Companies and Institutions of the Ambato Industrial Park – CEPIA joined as co-organizers of an event that brought together 53 participants, including researchers, businessmen and representatives of eight Ecuadorian universities.

The day included the participation of educational institutions such as the IKIAM Amazonian Regional University, the Litoral Polytechnic School (ESPOL), the Central University of Ecuador (UCE), the Private Technical University of Loja (UTPL), Amawtay Wasi, the Technical University of Ibarra (UTI) and the Technical University of Manabí (UTM). In addition, the Higher Education Quality Assurance Council (CACES) and the Provincial Government of Tungurahua were present.

One of the key elements of this Summit was the use of an innovative Korean methodology, facilitated by three experts on the subject, which allowed attendees to propose joint collaboration scenarios. Ten working groups were formed to generate applicable ideas, whose systematization could lead to future projects. CEDIA committed to following up on the proposals, seeking development opportunities with both innovators and its members.

Every year, the Ideas Summit is organized by CEDIA , which serves as a representative of the academic field, in collaboration with a Higher Education Institution (HEI) and a business union. This initiative has been designed to create bridges between academia and the private sector, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and resources to address real problems.

The event offers a unique platform for academia-business collaboration, allowing researchers and entrepreneurs to work together on innovative solutions. In addition, it encourages applied innovation, where theoretical knowledge is put into practice in concrete situations.

Another benefit of the Summit is the advanced training and education provided to attendees, adapted to the needs of the projects under development. Participants also have the opportunity to broaden their perspectives and connect with universities across the country, facilitating professional networking.

Beyond developing innovation skills and establishing valuable networks, the Ideas Summit also promotes impact and sustainability. The projects born from this space are designed to offer effective solutions to the current challenges of various industries, with an eye toward sustainable development.

With this second edition, the Ideas Summit reaffirms its position as an essential meeting point for intersectoral collaboration, co-creation and the promotion of innovation in Ecuador, marking a before and after in the relationship between academia and company.
