Publishing for the first time (without losing your mind in the process)

There comes a moment—it always does—when you find yourself with a finished piece of work in your hands, many hours invested, data, ideas, perhaps even a hypothesis you're proud of. You look at it, revise it, organize it. And then comes the question that keeps you up at night: Where do I publish it?

Trend vs. Digital Privacy

Because simply having done the research isn't enough. It's not enough for your data to be accurate. It's not even enough for the idea to be good. If no one reads it, if it doesn't enter into a broader conversation, your work remains in a kind of academic limbo: it exists, but it has no impact.

Publishing for the first time can feel like trying to crash a party. There are protocols, formats, reviewers, rules… and it all seems more intimidating than it actually is. That's why spaces like TICEC's conference CEDIA on Information and Communication Technologies, are so valuable.

TICEC is not just a conference. It's a place where an academic community tells you: "Here's a space to share and amplify your research." Where you're not expected to have 20 years of experience. You're expected to have something to say. To be just starting out. To be finding your place.

The 2025 edition, to be held this October 16th and 17th, is much more than a showcase for research. It's a meeting point for those who are shaping the future: senior and junior. The important thing is to understand that the first paper doesn't have to be perfect. It has to be honest. It has to say something new and useful. It has to occupy a space to exist, and in a country where academia often swims against the tide, spaces like TICEC are not only welcome: they are necessary.

So if you have something to share—an idea, an application, a proof of concept, a working algorithm—don't wait for "the perfect publication," share your scientific or technical track .

Present. Publish. Participate!

And if it's your first paper, let it be at home. Let it be in Ecuador. Let it be at TICEC.
