Treatment, use and valorization of organic solid waste

This new training program has a 60-hour endorsement

In Ecuador, over 50% of municipal organic waste is organic. Furthermore, one of the main economic activities is agriculture and livestock farming, which generates a considerable amount of organic waste from crop harvesting and post-harvest processes, as well as manure and slurry from animal husbandry, among other sources.

The decomposition of organic waste exposed to the open air or stored in landfills generates leachate and biogas that are emitted into the environment and contribute to water and soil pollution problems and global warming due to the emission of greenhouse gases.

This course will address both scientifically and technically the technologies used for the treatment, use and valorization of organic solid waste such as: static composting piles, dynamic composting piles, vermicomposting, digester bales and biopreparations.
