Wave Energy: A Sustainable Solution for Electricity Generation in Ecuador.

General Objective: Implement a technical study of wave energy under the modality of an oscillating water column plant using sustainable materials that best adapts the design to the dynamic wave conditions of the coastal sector in order to supply the energy demand of a part of the population. of Saint Helena.

Specific objectives:

  • Carry out a technical field study that includes obtaining the energy potential of the waves, soil study, selection of the strategic sector and the target population for the province of Santa Elena.
  • Design the structure/support of the wave system based on alternative materials and the required energy demand, evaluating the way in which the best energy potential of the waves can be obtained.
  • Design the energy conversion system that adapts to the dynamic conditions of the waves to optimize its performance.
  • Design the electrical energy distribution system to optimally meet the energy needs of the selected population.
  • Build a prototype on an educational scale that reflects the operating principle of wave energy and the factors that affect the performance of an oscillating water column system.
  • Evaluate the performance of the prototype under different conditions and factors that influence the energy output power.
  • Apply situational changes to the oscillating column water system to improve system efficiency using computer-aided programs.
  • Disseminate the relevant findings of the project in at least two publications indexed in the Scopus database, a dissemination article for a non-technical audience, Webinars and presentation of results at a conference.
