Mandatory update for platform users
The Zoom video conferencing platform and CEDIA inform the general public that, starting November 1, 2021, customers must update their Zoom software, because if they do not have this update, the platform will NOT WORK from that date.
This action aims to ensure that there is no more than a nine-month update delay with the current version. After that point, users will be prompted to update their software to the latest version. For example, if the latest version of the Zoom client was released in September 2021, customers attempting to access Zoom services with a version released before January 2021 will be prompted to update to a more recent version to access Zoom's full functionality.
Users are reminded to regularly download and update to the latest version of Zoom software by checking for updates or visiting zoom.us/download. This will ensure they take advantage of all the latest security features and functionality. It's important to note that users of older versions of Zoom may be at risk of encountering bugs and vulnerabilities that have been fixed in more recent versions.
This policy will affect the following products (the oldest possible version as of November 2021):
• Zoom Client: Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, Intune, and Blackberry (5.5.0)
• Zoom Rooms (5.5.0)
• Zoom Phone Devices (5.6.0)
• Outlook Add-in (5.5.1)
• Browser Developer Extensions for Chrome (1.6.3) and Firefox (2.1.13)
• VDI Client (5.5.0)
• Virtual Room Connector (4.4.6670.20201130)
• Meeting Connector (4.6.3)
• Recording Connector (3.8.41)
• Meeting SDK (5.5.0)
Note: The 9-month release window will not apply to devices running Zoom Room Controller software, such as Zoom Room Controllers and Scheduling Displays, at this time. However, Zoom reserves the right to require an update in the future.
Please note that while the minimum Zoom Client software version required for this program is 5.5.0, additional updates may be required outside of this release window to address additional security or compliance features. The Platform recommends that users consult its release notes for details of included security enhancements.
