Characterization of the Mathematical Modeling Processes Developed by Primary Education Students

General Objective: Characterize the processes of mathematical modeling developed by students of the Sixth Year of Basic General Education of the Inter-American Bilingual Educational Unit and CEBCI Educational Unit through a case study and design-based research, with the purpose of contributing scientifically to the existing literature. on the subject and to the improvement of the teaching-learning processes of mathematics in Ecuador.

Specific objectives

  • Train at least 80% of the Basic General Education teachers of the participating educational units regarding Mathematical Modeling and its implementation in the classroom.
  • Design Mathematical Modeling activities for students in the sixth year of Basic General Education, through collaborative work between the teachers of the participating students and the research team.
  • Identify the main characteristics of the Mathematical Modeling processes developed by the participating students.
  • Produce two scientific articles to be published in journals indexed in Web of Science and/or Scopus to increase Ecuadorian scientific production in the field of Mathematics Education.
  • Demonstrate with scientific evidence to the Ministry of Education and educational units the advantages and/or disadvantages of the implementation of Mathematical Modeling processes within the classrooms, with the purpose of being used for the design or reformulation of the curriculum, textbooks and/or or resources used in the teaching-learning process.
