CHONTA (Biological diversity of Bactris gasipaes in Ecuador)

General Objective: Evaluate the biological diversity of the populations of Chonta (Bactris gasipeas Kunth) in the Coast and Amazon of Ecuador.

Specific objectives

  • Determine the genetic diversity of chonta populations and their evolutionary relationships between wild and domesticated components and sister species.
  • Determine the phenotypic characteristics of the chonta populations.
  • Describe the diversity of microorganisms associated with disease symptoms in domesticated chonta.
  • Describe the lipid profiles (fatty acids), polysaccharides, carotenoids and tocopherols of chonta fruits.
