ESTALMAT is a project to stimulate mathematical talent that has been developing in Spain since 1998. This project was created with the support of the Royal Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences, sponsored by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).
CEDIA is part of this project and has the support of the Royal Academy of Sciences of Spain to replicate it in the province of Azuay starting in 2019.
As part of the initial call made in the province of Azuay, a group of 20 students was selected, who successfully completed the 2019-2022 period. Within the initial group, the outstanding participation of Carlos Xavier Peña Aucapiña, a student of the First edition of ESTALMAT – Ecuador, was recognized.
In recognition of his performance, he was invited to the Canary Islands, Spain to participate in a mathematical event that took place on April 1, 2 and 3 at the Museum of Science and Technology, an activity in which he was able to share his experiences and insights with the children and teachers of the ESTALMAT Spain program.
Additionally, within the event, María Simoné Martínez Molina, representative of the teachers of the ESTALMAT Program – Ecuador, presented her paper ETHNOMATHEMATICS.
