The global Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISC) program enables innovators in developing countries, least developed countries and countries in transition to access and use technological information from more than 130 million research documents. published patents and dozens of scientific and technical publications, to help them reach their innovative potential. CATIs, or TISCs, for its acronym in English, Technology and Innovation Support Centers, are usually located in patent offices, universities, research centers or science and technology parks, and provide support to innovators where they need it most.

The global growth of CTI networks and their increasing maturity and sustainability have been accompanied by an increase in demand for CTI services. According to the annual year-end survey conducted by ITCs worldwide, it is estimated that ITCs have received 1.7 million inquiries in 2021, which represents an increase of 24% over the figures reported for 2020. In In this sense, in Ecuador in 2021, the TISC network carried out 52 state-of-the-art searches, mainly in the areas of biotechnology, engineering, agrochemicals, and pharmaceuticals/chemistry.

In this context, part of the mission of the CTIs is to expand the depth and range of their services, as well as the number of sustainable national CTI networks and the demand and growth of services. At the same time, TISCs have expanded their range of services to help local users to better exploit their innovative potential in all phases of innovation. Support services for technology transfer, commercialization and intellectual property management, in particular, are creating real value, as evidenced by the increasing number of CTI initiatives to help local researchers, inventors and entrepreneurs to bring inventions to market.

Within the annual report presented by the Technology and Innovation Support Centers (CATI) 2021 the following is mentioned:

“In Ecuador, the Ecuadorian National Research and Education Network ( CEDIA ), a key member of the national TISC network, publishes a periodical journal of technological surveillance (CONNECT) that tracks advances in various areas of science and technology. technology to inform research, business and policy decisions, and support technology transfer in these areas.”

We can proudly mention that CEDIA is considered a key entity to promote technological and innovative support as well as outstanding support for technology transfer, knowledge and intellectual property processes in Ecuador.
