Valorization of plant extracts as eco-friendly inhibitors of admiralty copper corrosion in an acid medium

General Objective: To evaluate the use of extracts of dragon's blood (Croton lechleri), lupine (Lupinus mutabilis) and banana (Musa acuminata) as eco-friendly inhibitors of admiralty copper corrosion in an acid medium.

Specific objectives

  • Obtain extracts of the latex from Croton lechleri (dragon's blood), from the waste of Lupinus mutabilis (chocho), and the waste from Musa acuminata (banana) by means of solvent extraction techniques to be tested as admiralty copper corrosion inhibitors. in acid medium.
  • Phytochemically characterize the extracts obtained by techniques reported in the literature for the identification of metabolites and functional groups present in the extracts.
  • Electrochemically characterize the corrosion inhibitory capacity of the extracts obtained in admiralty copper in hydrochloric acid medium to determine the extract and its concentration with the highest corrosion efficiency.
  • Establish the optimal extraction parameters using the supercritical fluid technique to establish differences between the extracts obtained using solvent extraction techniques.
  • Superficially characterize the admiralty copper when undergoing corrosion in a hydrochloric acid medium without or with the presence of the optimized extracts that allows suggesting a probable inhibition mechanism.
  • Carry out a brief pre-feasibility study on the production of corrosion inhibitors from Ecuadorian natural sources to establish a route that allows the planning and development of future projects on a larger scale.
